An Ounce of Prevention—What a Concept!
In China, historically, doctor cared for a village, and that village cared for the doctor. The greatest doctor of the region was chosen to be the Emperor’s private physician. This was a blessing and a curse for the doctor because it turned into a matter of life and death for the doctor. If the Emperor became ill, for instance, the doctor would then be executed.
On the other hand, Western medical doctors are rewarded for curing the sick. Of course, if there is less sickness, there is less need for a healthcare system, but this could also mean that people become healthier and live longer which mean less money for the healthcare industry. Western medicine tends to thrive on sickness and the dramatic situations of saving lives.
Western medicine is highly responsive to trauma and acute situations. Nonetheless, healthcare doesn’t have to be sensationalized, and there is something to be said for preventative medicine. This involves taking better care of yourself, watching your nutrition, receiving acupuncture treatments, consuming herbal formulas to help with any imbalance, exercising on a regular basis and finding ways to minimize stress.
Optimal health is the key to a longer, happier, more eventful life. So consider a preventative modality like acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Find an acupuncture physician and start a preventive healthcare regimen. They can help you optimize your full potential and lead you toward a path of total well-being. At East West College of Natural Medicine, we have a clinic that provides services by highly trained and licensed natural medicine professionals, and it also serves as a hands-on training facility for Oriental Medicine students.
