Join the Celebration of Buddha’s Birthday this Month
We are celebrating Buddha’s birthday on April 6, 10 a.m. to noon, at Peace Presbyterian Church.
Buddha’s real name was Prince Siddhartha. He was born in Nepal in the sixth century B.C.E., and at a pivotal moment in his life, was moved to compassion by suffering of the people around him. He embarked on a search for how to be freed from suffering which compelled him to meditate under a Bodhi tree.
Through this meditation, he received the answers and was transformed to Buddha, or the “Enlightened One.” His teachings were subsequently adopted by numerous people to overcome sorrow, stress, disease and even death, and these philosophies are still open to all. There is no need to convert, join or make any kind of lifestyle change. Practice your own path and observe Buddha’s teachings to reach your highest awareness.
The Buddha birthday program is intended to highlight this process of transfiguration, service and Nirvana for everyone. Bhante Dhammawamsha, a Sri Lankan Monk who has practiced Buddha’s teaching for over 40 years, will help us understand the path Buddha followed. Please come help us celebrate this time of enlightenment. A free vegetarian lunch will be provided.
Location: 12705 RT 64 East, Lakewood Ranch. Entry donation: $20.
