Why Organic, Natural Hair Dye Is the Better Option
Our clients always ask, “Does organic hair dye really work?” Before coming to Angela’s Pure Salon & Spa the majority of our clients experienced red splotches, rashes and burning on the scalp from the use of harsh chemicals. However, like many others, they just assumed this is how hair dye is and continued using it every few months.
An estimated 70% of people in the U.S. apply chemicals such as ammonia, resorcinol and paraphenylenediamine to their heads on a regular basis. Once our clients came across natural hair dye, they were often skeptical, but after an initial consultation, they decided to give it a try. The first aspect they noticed when the color was being applied was the lack of odor.
Clients then learned that natural hair dye does not have ammonia, PPD or resorcinol which helped transition them into using natural hair color. PPD is a chemical substance that is used in all mainstream permanent hair dyes, known as a possible carcinogen which often causes allergic reactions like reddening and swelling of the scalp. Ammonia is another chemical found in common hair dyes which forces the hair cuticle to open fast, so the color can be absorbed. Finally, resorcinol is another coloring agent found in mainstream dyes.
So how does natural hair dye work? Instead of relying on chemicals, it contains ingredients like minerals, sunflower seed wax and sweet almond oil that nourishes the hair while treating. To dye the hair, it uses direct mineral color pigments to either mute or enhance a tone. Natural hair dye also lasts as long as the mainstream variety because the illite and kaolin clays gently open the hair cuticle, allowing mineral color pigments to penetrate the shaft as deeply as mainstream ammonia and dyes. After using natural color, our clients tend to notice a difference in both their hair and overall health.
