Letter From Publisher July 2024
Jun 30, 2024 11:00AM ● By Janet LindsaySummer is heating up on the Suncoast—and with this time of year comes vibrant nutrition, exhilarating activities, and the pure refreshment of nature. In this issue of Natural Awakenings, we’ll dive into the holistic benefits of nourishing our bodies, rejuvenating our wellness, and harmonizing our lives with all the abundance that summer has to offer.
On that note, this month’s feature article is all about “Ayurvedic Seasonal Eating: How to Balance Doshas with the Right Foods.” According to the ancient wellness practice of Ayurveda, eating in accordance with the earth’s seasonal rhythms will promote dosha (or elemental) equilibrium and restoration within our bodies. This article explores how choosing naturally in-season foods can resolve imbalances, enhance digestion, and reinforce vitality, while also caring for the health of our communities and environment.
While we’re on the subject of nutrition, our “Conscious Eating” article explains how to nourish skin with whole, natural foods. This time of year is known for that radiant summer glow—but it’s also important to shield our skin from those harmful ultraviolet rays. Foods that nurture a diverse gut microbiome, reduce inflammation, and stimulate collagen production can do absolute wonders for skin health and complexion all season long.
Finally, what’s a Florida summer without splashing into water activities? This month’s “Fit Body” article makes the case for water-based exercise to increase blood flow, strengthen muscles, and boost aerobic capacity, without exerting too much pressure on the joints. From swimming to water sports, there are so many aquatic options to immerse yourself in this summer—but, of course, don’t forget to prioritize safety as well.
As we embrace this season of warmth and sunshine, I want to express my continual gratitude for the community we’ve built together across our beautiful Suncoast. Thank you for making us part of your own health and wellness journey—I’ll see you back here in August!
